ALPHABUS "the First" of Lanaudière
Pilot Project
Objective of the project :
The main objective of the project is to put a brake on school dropping out and illiteracy by developing in young people an interest in quality literature and in the world of education.
Description of the project :
ALPHABUS is recycled school bus, especially fitted out as a computerized press room.
ALPHABUS drives around the roads of Lanaudière in order to reach thousands of children in quest of knowledge.
In 2003-2004, at the school boards of the region, about 38,765 pupils are registered at the preschool and primary levels, and 30,544 at the secondary.
ALPHABUS is collegially elaborated by educators, business people and specialists in community affairs, among others.
ALPHABUS can accommodate about 30 children, at the same time, with a whole range of enriching educational tools at their disposal. Our interactive workshops, supervised by qualified professionals, will increase tenfold their opportunities to learn and to cultivate their minds.
ALPHABUS moves from one municipality to another, staying there for a week. This pilot project takes place in Lanaudière, a region that is afflicted by a colossal number of dropouts and illiterates.
ALPHABUS visits libraries, schools, day camps, daycare centers, youth centers, community and cultural organizations.
